Would He?
At a recent lecture regarding the Nixon scandal and the Iraq War, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward speculated that Dick Cheney might run for the Republican nomination. He did so in response to an audience question, Woodward points out that:
“He would be 67 if he ran and was elected. Reagan was 69. Republicans always like the old warhorse. … Nixon was 68,” said Woodward, best known for exposing the Watergate scandal that led to Richard Nixon’s resignation in 1974. “Both parties like to nominate vice presidents. … Cheney would do it, and I think it’s highly likely, so stay tuned.”
I admit it’d be interesting to see in what direction Cheney goes, would he embrace the Christian right as the current President has been taking to, or instead retreat to tactics used by Reagan and Bush I, mainly using them for elections only.
I personally believe it’s worth watching, amid all the talk of people like Santorum, Frist, and McCain running, people are largely discounting the Vice President, and underestimation is almost always a mistake.
Gary, he has said repeatedly that he (the vicepresident) is not going to run. Moreover, he has a lesbian daughter that he is okay with, and he has had four heart attacks. Regan was healthy during his first term, and people are weary since them of putting someone in with any signs of mental degredation. Nixon, well i am not sure he was ever very healthy. I doubt very much that cheney would run, especailly consider he the anthesis of the christian conservative (embodied by santorum)

Dan,
Hillary has said repeatedly that she isn’t going to run, so I suppose if you believe that, I’ll believe Cheney isn’t going to run.
AS to the point of the Christian conservative that’s why I don’t think he would run, but I think it’s worth remembering that he is a Vice President and despite his weaker christian credentials perhaps, he has very strong other credentials that would put him ahead of others in the primary.

I honestly do not see clinton as a good choice for the Dem’s. It seems like warner is a much better choice. New York will not be in play unless guilini (sp) or Patoki run, and the chances of them secure the nom is less then better odds in my book. Best to pick people from other backgrounds. Remeber, for all you want to say about Hilary being from Arkansas she is still a yale trained lawyer
